Applying for the Law Admission Test (LAT) can be a frustrating experience if you aren't familiar with the Higher Education Commission's (HEC) portal. Many students miss their exam simply because their application was left in "Saved" status instead of "Submitted."
In this guide, we will walk you through the exact, step-by-step process of registering for the HEC LAT 2026 without making any fatal errors.
Security Warning: Fake Websites
Never pay your fee to a private WhatsApp number or unverified website claiming to register you. The ONLY official portal for LAT registration is the Education Testing Council (ETC) portal: http://etc.hec.gov.pk.
Step 1: Create Your ETC Profile
Open your browser and visit the official HEC portal. If you are a new user, click on Sign Up.
- Select your Nationality (Pakistani).
- Enter your CNIC number (or B-Form number if you don't have a CNIC yet).
- Set a strong password.
- Enter an active mobile number and email address. You will receive an OTP (One-Time Password) on both to verify your account.
Step 2: Complete Your Personal Profile
Once logged in, click on "My Profile". You must complete your profile to 100% before you can apply for the test.
- Personal Info: Fill in your name, father's name, date of birth, and mailing address.
- Upload Photo: Upload a clear, passport-sized photograph with a blue or white background (Max file size: 2MB).
- Education: Add your educational details starting from Matriculation/O-Levels, followed by Intermediate/A-Levels.
Step 3: Select the LAT Exam
Now, go to the dashboard and look for the active "Law Admission Test (LAT)" application link.
Click on "Apply". Here, you will be asked to choose your preferred test center. HEC conducts the LAT in major cities like Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Multan, Peshawar, and Quetta. Choose carefully, as you cannot change your center once the application is submitted.
Step 4: Generate the Fee Challan
After selecting your test center, the system will generate a 1Link Consumer ID / Challan Number for the test fee (Rs. 1,800). This is a unique 17 or 20-digit code.
📱 Tech Tip: How to Pay via JazzCash
- Open your JazzCash App.
- Scroll down to "Education" or use the search bar to find "Corporate / 1Link".
- Select 1Bill (Invoice / Voucher).
- Enter your unique Consumer ID generated by the HEC portal.
- Confirm the payment of Rs. 1,800. Take a screenshot of the successful receipt.
Step 5: The Most Important Step (Verification)
Do not close the website after paying! This is where 90% of students make a fatal error.
After paying the fee via your phone, go back to the HEC portal. Click the "Verify Online Payment" button. The portal will automatically link with the 1Link system and confirm your payment. Only after verification will your application status change from "Saved" to "Submitted".
If your application status says "Submitted", congratulations! You are officially registered and will receive your Roll Number Slip via email about a week before the exam date.
Registration is just the first step. Now, the real work begins.
